Whenever comedy on Indian television is talked about, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai inevitably comes up. Shubhangi Atre, the popular actress who plays Angoori Bhabhi in the show, is now set to appear on the big screen with the same character. In an exclusive interview, she opened up about her upcoming film, her journey on television, the challenges of being a single mother, and her fitness routine. Here’s what she shared:
- You’ll soon be seen on the big screen. Tell us something about your film.
In the film, I’m playing the same character I’ve been portraying for the past 10 years in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai. Yes, the filmmaking process is a bit different, but the character remains the same. It’s essentially an extended version of the show. A few new actors have joined the cast — such as Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Tiwari, and Vijendra Kala. Working with them was a lot of fun. The film was shot in just 17 days, which is a record in itself. The film’s director is Shashank Bali, who also directs our TV show. Working with him is always easy because we trust him completely.
- You’re a mother too — how do you manage your fitness?
Look, I rarely go to the gym, but I regularly practice yoga and meditation. Every morning, I do 11 rounds of Surya Namaskar — that’s my secret to staying fit.
- How challenging is life as a single mother?
It’s very tough. I get very little time for myself. Taking care of my daughter, shooting, household chores, and managing a small farmhouse — I have to handle everything on my own. It truly feels like living the life of a "One Woman Army."
- Do you get offers for reality shows like Bigg Boss or Khatron Ke Khiladi?
Yes, I’ve received many offers. But my first priority has always been Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai.
- Why haven’t you participated in any dance reality shows yet?
I definitely want to do that. I’m a classical dancer and have learned Kathak for many years. I would love to be part of a dance show — it’s my dream.
- What makes this film special for the audience?
This film is meant to reduce stress. Life has become very stressful post-COVID. Watching this film will make people laugh, bring relief, and they’ll walk out of the theatre with a smile on their face.
- Recently, World Environment Day was celebrated. What message would you like to give your audience?
I humbly request everyone — please don’t litter on roads or in creeks. Reduce the use of plastic and protect our Mother India. We must act now so that future generations don’t blame us later.
- What would you like to say to your audience?
I’ve been part of this industry for 18 years, and what gives me the most joy is entertaining all of you. I promise I’ll continue to make you laugh and roll on the floor (Lotpot) with laughter in the times to come!
